Often, typical yoga classes involve getting down on the floor and getting back up again…. and sometimes repeatedly through a whole class! This can prove challenging for folks who have taken a long break from activity or have mobility issues such as arthritis, disc degeneration, hip or knee replacement, size/weight, or general all-over-body creakiness from a life well lived.

In this virtual class with Kate Bradfield, we will do all of our balance and mobility work while either seated in a chair or standing. Be prepared to work in a focused way and bring the yoga practice to a level that is accessible to you. No one should feel intimidated or turned away from yoga. This practice is for everyone who wants to move and breathe and feel connected to self.

Try a new way to move! In this 6-week series you will learn movement sequences inspired by capoeira. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art often called a fight-dance-game as it combines martial art, dance, and acrobatic movements. Capoeira’s roots go back to the 16th century when it emerged as a form of self-defense, cultural expression and freedom against oppression experienced by African slaves brought to Brazil.

Today, capoeira is practiced around the world in different styles and group sizes and structures – from large hierarchical schools to small collectives. This is an intermediate 6-week series for students who have a strong foundation in yoga or another movement practice. Over the 6 classes you will learn a progression of movement sequences to do on your own or in pairs that will help you gain strength, flexibility, and coordination. You will also be encouraged to explore your own creative and enjoyable ways to move, so it doesn’t just feel like ‘exercise’.

As this series is in-person, a proof of vaccination is required. Masks are optional; this policy is subject to change.
